Fuck Cancer : Thank You
by Samantha ~ April 13th, 2009. Filed under: miscellaneous magic.I’ve said this before, but I am still so incredibly overwhelmed by the generosity exhibited by everyone regarding the Fuck Cancer cause, in honor of Lou Genise.
When I began the fundraiser, I ordered 20 prints, expecting to have them sitting around my house collecting dust in a forgotten corner, and my goal amount of $1,000 was nothing but a pipe dream. In less than a week, we reached our goal amount, and over the course of the last month, have more than tripled it, with more prints than I can count being sent out.
strong>Our total ending balance is $3,750, and with the dollar match C.O.H. is currently offering, that brings our total donation to $7,500.
I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this. People have dug deep in their hearts and pockets to help continue to fund research to find a cure for cancer, and every cent matters. Thank you to everyone that reposted and help get the word out, and thank you everyone for your sympathies and thoughts.
I spent a lot of time being angry about Lou getting sick and losing him. I’ve known a lot of terrible people throughout my life, and was so angry that something like this happened to a wonderful person like him, and not to someone who deserved it. What I finally came to realize, entirely due to the success of this fundraiser, is that had this happened to someone else, no one would have cared. Friends, family, and strangers from around the entire world wouldn’t have pulled together the way they have over the last month to help prevent this happening to someone else. It’s unfortunate that the price we have to pay is so great for this lesson, but it’s just another example of Lou’s endless selflessness.
I don’t know exactly when Lou filmed this video, but I stumbled upon it a few days ago, and wanted to share it with all of you.

$3750! That’s amazing. Congratulations! You should’ve gotten mine Saturday night. That’s a good way of honoring your friend’s memory.

Holy crud!!!
$7,500 !!!???
That’s a whopping three quarters of TEN GRAND!!
That’s an incredible achievement to have in Lou’s name; a big ripple to have in his wake. He’d be proud, for sure.
Or maybe kinda pissed off that he probably never saw that kind of flash money while he was living. 8-) But still proud.
