Miscellaneous
by Samantha ~ May 28th, 2009. Filed under: miscellaneous magic.Leaving for Portland in just a few hours, so here are a few things to keep you busy while I’m gone :

- Meet Ida, an incredibly old primate
. She is speculated to be the proverbial “Missing Link”, but that’s still up for debate. Reading about her the last few days reminded me of good ol’ Necky the Fish.
- This is entirely pointless
, but I was mildly amused I got to choose “Celery” over “The Olsen Twins”.
- Supposedly, a student started a lending library of banned books out of her school locker. I was super excited about it at first, but after reading a lot of the comments left on news sites about it, am suspicious of a hoax now. Regardless, it’s still a great idea.
- Amazing time lapse video of the night sky over Texas. I am quite fond of anything with “galactic core” in its description.
- @Darla_Crane posted this
My Own Private Idaho movie on Twitter. No. Fucking. Words.
- Watching Daisy of Love this week led me to Bree Kristel Clark’s website
, and I found myself there. Spot the Sam, and don’t mock me for watching that show. (Steve Prue noticed it first!)
- Speaking of pictures of myself, I updated my Shop page and added new items. I’ve decided to donate 15% of all sales to The Humane Society, because those infomercials kill me.
- Cherry Vega’s new site is gorgeous, and as usual, she is inspirational.
Off to finish packing and to the airport. I’ll be Twittering the whole time I’m there, and have got 10 rolls of 120mm film, a Flip camera, and my trusty 5D in tow. Expect to be bombarded with photos in the near future.

I just saw a special about Ida. I think it’s pretty amazing that even “her” last meal was preserved! The show just made me want to buy a Lemur, or get a hold of one somehow. Can you even buy one??? MAN that would be sweet!

Have a freaking wicked time.
And that statue completely makes total sense. Definately.

The “still up for debate” site you linked to is a Creationist Institution site. i.e. christians who don’t believe in evolution and think the earth is only 6,000 years old. Science doesn’t tote her as a “Missing Link” but a transition fossil, of which there are already many others. Tho she’s an amazingly beautiful complete fossil. Yeah, I noticed that, too, Mali. She IS a beautiful fossil, but the circumstances around her discovery and release are a little self-serving. I do hope there are further articles and researched published about her.
