It Was Going to be Brief
by Samantha ~ January 9th, 2010. Filed under: adventures.Briefly :
I took that with my phone yesterday while on a train. I believe I was crossing a bridge somewhere in between Harlem and the Bronx, but I could be totally wrong. Not wrong about the bridge, but not sure exactly where the bridge could have been. I was headed north of the city to shoot a new hopeful for Suicide Girls, and it was cold and snowing on and off all day.

The top of my New Year’s Resolutions for 2010 was to quit smoking. I’m on Day 9, currently. The first three days were completely nicotine free, and after that, I allow myself a drag or two per day. This is the third time I’ve made an effort to quit, and honestly, it’s the only time it ever feels like it might last. Yes, I suppose technically I am still smoking, but it’s prevented me from buying packs, and it takes the edge off completely. It also makes me completely sick to my stomach, so hopefully within the next few weeks I won’t need that, either. I’m still an emotional wreck, and am probably hell to be around.
Yay for self-inflicted chemical imbalances!
In other non-smoking or train riding news, a good portion of 2010 thus far has been spent :
- Job Hunting, which is just about as exciting as it sounds
- Movie watching – Sherlock Holmes (awesome), Avatar (pretty, but Ferngully for grownups), Jennifer’s Body (surprisingly entertaining & funny), UP (possibly the most emotionally moving movie I’ve seen in years, and an amazing story to boot), and a fair amount more that I can’t think of at the moment
- Dexter Season 4 – I can’t believe how many of my friends said this season wasn’t that great. I think it rivaled the first season for best one yet.
- Freezing my ass off. Who would have guessed it’s cold in NY in January?
- Making shoe shopping lists in my head, which will eventually be posted on Haute Macabre.
I also can’t stop watching Jersey Shore.
Don’t judge me.

I was going to ask how the quitting smoking thing was going. (And LMAO at CocoabutteR’s tweet!) Good luck with it.
And good luck with job hunting.
Jersey Shore wouldn’t seem to be your “thing” but whatever, no judgement here. People seem to either really love it or really hate it. Those who are indifferent to it don’t watch. (Like me)

Smoke free! You can do it!
It’ll make your life cleaner and healthier, you’ll save money, and assuming your significant other doesn’t smoke then kisses won’t be tainted with tar tobacco smoke.
Stay strong!

I feel your pain on the smoke quitting. Best wishes for you. I’m trying myself. Not going cold turkey this time. Trying not to smoke at work all day and then gradually smoking less at home.
Also, good luck on the job hunting.
Oh, and don’t feel bad about the Jersey Shore thing. I’ve caught myself watching Tough Love. I’m soo ashamed……

I forgot to mention seeing The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus! It was fantastic, and an absolute must see, especially for a Gilliam fan.

I broke drinking and smoking within three days. Then restarted and have been following your lead in only bumming cigarettes off other people, so now I feel like crap and all my friends are annoyed with me. I’ll be getting a carton tonight.

Hey Sam, it’s been what….’bout, 16 years since we spoke ; )
Anyway, if you’re having trouble quitting, e-cigs are a good alternative for the nic/oral fix. Check out dietsmokes.com. Cold turkey is a bitch. Be good.
