June saw me continuing with my Read All Things Gaiman quest. I still have quite a few to go, but I’m absolutely loving all of them.
This past month, I read through all ten volumes of The Sandman series. It is by far my favorite of all of his works, and I’m looking forward to reading The Sandman Companion and a few of the other essays and analysis over the next few weeks.
Did anyone else notice the incredible similarity between Dream’s helm and the Engineers’ helmets in that Prometheus abomination?
From Sandman, I went to the spin offs – the two Death books, and Endless nights, a collection of store about the other siblings in the Endless family. They’re all worth a read, but aren’t quite as impressive as the original series.
Murder Mysteries is the graphic novelization of one of the short stories in Smoke and Mirrors, detailing the first murder amongst the angels. I love that collection, especially the story of the Holy Grail and Snow White.

The Sandman was the inspiration for my right sleeve (which eventually will be finished, although I’m obviously in no rush). I also have plans for other pieces from it, eventually.

Completely off the Gaiman theme, I must have paged through the Francesca Woodman book about ten times since it arrived a few weeks ago. So completely inspirational.
As always, I’m curious what you’ve read recently. Anything spectacular?

For whatever reason, I had an incredibly difficult time organizing my thoughts for this post. I’m sure it shows, as reading back it seems a bit scattered about. My apologies, friends.

I have just finished book 1 of the “Shades of Grey” trilogy. Not that I like that type of literature (bodice ripping S&M laden fiction isn’t usually my cup of black tea) at all- I got a great deal on the 3 books and felt the need to read them just to see “what’s the fuss about”. Completely not impressed. I hate first person POV (it’s all one sided and I like know what the other characters are thinking) and often Ana’s POV goes bouncing about like a toddler in a bouncy castle. I will not be reading the last two books. Deal or no deal- they look good sitting on the bookshelf.
So I’m starting one of the two complete novels and short stories of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Much more brain stimulating. After that, probably going to re-read my Hemingway novels and Faulkner classics.

I’m currently reading A Song of fire and Ice, I’m on book 3 now and thoroughly enjoying it.
On the comic book theme, have you read any Fables? It is fantastic and definitely one of the best ongoing series right now.

Michelle :: Sherlock Holmes has been on my to-read list for ages! One of the stories in the [Gaiman] collection I’m reading now is a spin off him, really good stuff.
Greg :: I had to take a break from Song. I plowed through the first two & about 2/3rd through that, and then just completely lost interest out of nowhere. I think I need to see s2 to get a jump start.
I haven’t read Fables! I’ll check it out next time I’m in the comic shop!

Just finished Just Kids by Patti Smith. Simply amazing. And Francesca Woodman is indeed a true inspiration.
