The past week, life in New Orleans has been going at top speed. Parades, massive parties in the streets, and beads everywhere you look. Mardi Gras officially kicked off mid-January, but because of the Superbowl, everything got put on hold and then condensed into one solid week of mayhem.

This year, Amina & Twwly came to join in the festivities, and I couldn’t have been happier about it. I’ve known these ladies going on ten whole years now (TEN!! That’s a whole decade!!), and spending Carnival with them and my husband couldn’t have been more perfect!

I’m still sorting through all of the photos we took, but here are a bunch of Instax from Fat Tuesday that I wanted to share!
Yes, I am totally wearing a giant ball gown.

I honestly didn’t recognize Twwly – the blue hair is kind of new. But all 3 of you look great.
But how do you pronounce “Twwly”? I’ve always wondered, I even asked her once on her SG blog, but didn’t get an answer. It looks Welsh, so keeping in mind the slippery Welsh rules involving W’s, the best I could come up with is “Toolie” or “Tu-illy”.

Sam, I love these. You look like an angel. Have you ever read any of the Weetzie Bat series by Francesca Lia Block? You remind me of Weetzie in these pics.

Eric :: It’s pronounced “Twill – ee” as far as I’ve ever known! I could be saying it totally wrong, too! We’ve always called one another by our real names, so now you’ve got me wondering if I’ve said it wrong all these years, too!

Eboni :: Awwww, shucks. I haven’t read those! Should I check them out of the library??

Oh my gosh, Sam! You have to! They are young adult books, so they are super short. Start with “Weetize Bat,” which is the first. I kind of loved them when I was a teenager. I’m not sure how they will hold up now, but there is something kinda special about them.
