Elbow Deep in Negatives

I’ve spent the last two days scanning and sorting film from the last two months. It’s like tapping into memories that were hiding just beneath the surface, tiny little moments that seemed totally unimportant at their conception, but bring a nostalgic smile on their reappearance.

I really like long, quiet drives and uncropped edges.

I’m not entirely sure if I was coming or going in either of those, but that’s just semantics.

I’ve slowly sorted through the snapshots I took in Costa Rica and did some post work on a few. I mostly shot film while I was there, but haven’t dropped any of it off yet. As it was rainy season, and apparently the worst they have had in many years, I didn’t take the cameras out too often.

Kill Switch

Most of these are from San Jose, the most frustrating city that has probably ever existed in the modern world. It is over crowded, crumbling, and mostly made of tin. Have I mentioned that there are little to no street signs ANYWHERE in the entire country, and all the maps are full of lies? It’s like trying to navigate inside the House of Leaves. I am convinced that things move or cease to exist when you aren’t looking directly at them. Highway exists aren’t marked, and the few signs that do exist are flat and mounted against the walls of random corners, completely camouflaged, painted over, or ripped off entirely.

Sloths, on the other hand, are made of hugs and holding hands.

I made it home from Costa Rica a few days ago, along with a gross sinus infection which caused me to miss Comic Con. More pictures and tales to follow in the not so distant future, but for now, I leave you with Burhl, the monster that shared a shower with Nixon one evening in the Arenal region.

Graveyard Shift divx

Any arachnologists out there want to take a guess as to what he might be? The closest we can figure is that he’s either a member of the huntsman or the fishing families, and was about 6-8 inches in diameter (even with the missing legs).
