Goths in Hot Weather? Yuh – huh. Nixon and I shot this when I went to visit her last month while we were out walking around in the Albany Bowl. I like lens flares, and also have absolutely no idea what I am doing shooting outdoors. Actually, I have no idea what I am doing outdoors, period, since not only am I allergic to fucking everything, but I dislike the dreaded Day Star.

Sunday Smut : From my Travels

This week’s edition of Sunday Smut comes from hundreds of miles on my car & boarding passes buried in luggage.

Miss Q & I have been friends for about five or six years now, ever since she messaged me on SG once upon a time to say she’d be in Santa Barbara for the weekend. We shared a bottle of vodka on my front porch, and she projectile vomited across my living room shortly after. We’ve been friends ever since, and she on occasion will send me incredibly wonderful unmarked packages in the mail. One included a number of dried chicken feet, with no note or return address. It’s why I love her.

I shot Regal Lace

while in Oakland two weeks ago, in one of her friend’s lofts. It’s the first time since I became a staff photographer that I tried my own hand at photoshopping the set, and I’m still scratching my head trying to figure out Cherry’s methods.

Serene was one of the lovelies I got to meet while in Portland in May. Reflected was shot in the beautiful bathroom in the suite at The Nines I shared with Courtney, and I couldn’t resist the triple mirrors for a set. She was such a fantastic model that the only thing I had to worry about was whether or not I was in the mirrors as well – which I am in a few shots, but I’ll forgive myself for my accidental cameos.

So many millions of thanks to Cymagen for helping me out with the lighting on most of the Portland sets! I couldn’t have done it without him, and once again, Cherry completely read my mind regarding the color treatment. I don’t even bother telling her what I’m looking for anymore, since I know she’ll either just KNOW or competely one up me.

Lilac is another Portland girl that I had the pleasure of working with. She has the face of a Russian doll, don’t you think?

We still had tons of natural light streaming in, so we went with the sun rather than the strobes for Flirting with Summer Mr. Moto Takes a Chance . I hadn’t realized that the big shoot day in Portland was the same day as a huge parade, which caused a ton of traffic and street closures surrounding the hotel. If you look through the windows in this set, you can see the crowds of people in the streets and in the squares. I’m still not sure if they were able to see her through the windows, but seeing her was probably better than any parade events.

Sunday Smut : Behind the Scenes

It’s not often that I have another photographer around while I’m shooting, but while in Portland, Isaac White

helped me with the lighting on all the sets I shot. And thank fuck for that, because I’m lucky I can turn a lamp on. He also took a bunch of behind the scenes shots, so now you can see what an ass I make of myself while I’m working.

Shooting Roza was SO great. I can’t wait to get the set back from post. She and I worked on a project together a few years ago for Suicide Girls, and have kept in touch since. She truly is a Great American Hero.

This was the first time I had ever met Casper, and I exhibited nothing but pure professionalism.

Portland was fantastic. I mean, really, really great. I cannot believe how much we packed into such a short trip. Rather than list every tiny thing out in great detail (because I am lazy, and that would be boring), I instead shall give you a brief list and then bombard you with photos.

Devil’s Point : All that I will say is Stormy is a wonderfully terrible person, and I am glad cameras were not allowed inside.
Powell’s Books : I had a massive allergy attack Friday morning, so didn’t get to explore Powell’s as much as I would have liked, but did pick up a few things that I no longer had copies of.
The Shanghai Tunnels : More of a stand around listening tour than a walking tour, but still really neat, nonetheless.
The Rose Gardens & The Japanese Gardens : So very pretty. Even the squirrels are friendly.
Marathon shooting session : I shot five sets of five girls Saturday night. More on that in the future.
Shopping on Hawthorne : I have realized I’m a terrible vintage clothing shopper. I don’t have the patience to dig through racks, but I love old junk shops. Go figure.
VooDoo Donuts : Cock n Balls Special. Seriously.
Friends! Saw SO many friends in Portland, and made new ones. I am amazed by how friendly and awesome everyone in that entire city seems to be.

Wild Things rip

More photos to come, eventually. I still have to steal all of Courtney’s pics, and get all my film from my Holga developed. Speaking of, all my candids were shot with a 50mm 1.8 lens, and after this trip, I want to upgrade to the 50mm 1.4. I love how light the 1.8 is (it’s made of plastic), but the 1.4 is so much sharper. If I have a good summer, I’m going to get one. I also think I’m going to treat myself to a Diana+ for my birthday next week to keep my Holga company.
